Awl Aboard!

Here's a topical post from this morning's The Awl.

Flipping through Mein Kampf in public takes some temerity, though I guess one might interpret the reader's interest as academic. I wonder if it's even possible to come up with a credible, intellectual-ish excuse for reading a trashy romance. Nothing springs to mind.

  1. My reading material varies widely, and I guess I don't give much thought to people's perception of what I'm reading. I'm not one to care what others think.

In the past week, I've read The Great Gatsby and Diane Mott Davidson's Prime Cut - would I rather be seen reading one or the other? *shrugs* Not really.

  2. I care deeply what others think, 24/7, and I would definitely be OK with romance on the train. Fairly or not (it's not), as a man, I'd be playing against type and people would be charmed.

I'd be sure to have an extra furrowed brown to boot.
